What is Reiki?

Reiki is a deeply relaxing ancient technique for stress relief. It’s a hands-on non-intrusive therapy, which enhances the body’s innate ability to heal itself.

How does Reiki work?

The client lies down on a plinth or massage table fully clothed. The Reiki practitioner follows a sequence of hand positions over the body without making contact with the body. The universal life energy is channeled through the practitioner’s hands.

Most clients feel a deep sense of relaxation. Sometimes they feel heat, tingling, coolness as the energy flows through their body during a Reiki treatment. Reiki will flow to where the body needs it the most. Every Reiki session is different as Reiki works on physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels depending on the clients needs.

How many Reiki treatments does a client require?

The practitioner will recommend treatments depending on the condition. Sometimes one session weekly will be required for chronic illnesses. Otherwise, one every 4 weeks should be enough.
For people with an acute condition they may notice lasting improvements after only one or two treatments. Again, every case is different.

Can Reiki cure?
Reiki is reported to have helped a broad range of conditions from skin conditions to cancer. Reiki is a healing therapy which means it is bringing your body back to a place of balance and harmony. With a balanced energy system, you will have more vital energy available so that the body will be at a more optimum state to heal itself. Healing is a process. Reiki has done a lot for people’s health. Reiki Practitioners can never claim to cure as Reiki works with everyone individually.

Who can get a Reiki treatment?
Anyone can get a Reiki treatment and the Reiki energy will help each person in a different way, depending on their physical, mental and spiritual needs.

Do I need to take off my clothes during Reiki treatments?
No, there is no need to remove clothing during treatments. The client will generally be asked to remove shoes or maybe some jewelry to become more comfortable.

Do I have to believe in Reiki in order for it to work? 
No. Reiki works even if you don’t believe in it. Reiki works on unconscious patients, people in comas, babies and animals. The acceptance of the Reiki energy during a Reiki treatment operates below conscious thought. It is the subconscious desires of the person in receipt of the Reiki energy that will determine whether the energy is taken in or not.

Is Reiki a religion?
No, it is not. People of all religious and belief systems practice this healing art.   Reiki helps people to connect with their inner self on a deep level. In this way it is spiritual, not religious.

Can anyone learn how to do Reiki for themselves?
Yes, anyone can learn Reiki.
